TOPPENISH -- The Yakama Nation faced massive federal fines for how it distributed earnings from the Legends Casino in Toppenish. Tuesday the tribe discussed the situation and its resolution, plus why it’s closing a convenience store. Last year it distributed it's economic stimulus payments of $2,000 to each of it's members. It did so a little early and was going to be fined. Today the feds waived part of their fines and the nation will only have to pay $5,000. The nation will also have to close its "Yaki-Mart” convenience store. The bad economy has made it too expensive to operate. It employed almost 20 people from the reservation.
