THORP -- One hundred years ago Taneum Creek near Thorp was dammed up and the fish were shut out. Today the Coho Salmon were permanently allowed back up stream to their native waters. It took six weeks for crews to dig up 5 feet of damaged riverbed then fill it with larger rock, creating a channel resembling a natural river bed. This means easy passage for the fish even during low flows. It runs right below I-90 about 10 miles north of Ellensburg.
