When you fly with a laptop computer in your carry-on luggage, you know the drill. Take off your shoes. Get the coins out of your pockets -- and pull the laptop out of the bag and into the plastic bin.
That may be about to change, with a new jiggling of the federal rules about making your way through security with a laptop. The Transportation Security Administration now will let you leave your computer in the bag, if it is inside one of the new type of "checkpoint friendly" cases. The new rules will take place later this month, August 16th, to be exact.
The TSA has reached out to bag makers to develop cases that will let a laptop be seen clearly as it passes through an X-ray machine. The new bags will be available soon, and at least three manufacturers have had their wares approved by the TSA. They are Targus, Mobile Edge and Skooba Design.
