Commuter Bus Service marks 100 days

It looks like Yakima and Ellensburg commuters won't have to worry about catching a ride anymore.

The City of Yakima says a new operator has been found for it's commuter bus.

Central Washington Airporter will take over bus operations in June, following the current operator, HopeSource, announcing it's departure last month.

The airporter service will serve as interim operators through summer of next year until a permanent operator is contracted -- students at Central say they are glad the service is here to stay.

"Instead of driving up here every day and spending the money on the gas, getting possibly a parking ticket if I park in the wrong spot, it's just great to have a bus system available where you don't have to worry about any of that stuff," said Sean Norris.

In addition to the change in operators, the number of daily routes will be reduced from 8 to 6, daily fares will go up to $6, and monthly passes will go up from $125 to $150 -- those changes have to be approved by the city council.
