Unoccupied Yakima Home Fire Deemed Suspicious

Narrative
  At approximately 1215 hours today, March 24, 2014, the Yakima Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 800 blk of South 11th Ave. The first arriving crews found a large amount of fire on the outside of the building on the alley side in the back. They were able to quickly put the fire out and keep it from going into the main portion of the residence. The fire did however consume most of the enclosed back porch area.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The home owner is remodeling the building and no one is currently living there. The damage was estimated to be about $20,000.

Investigators on the scene deemed this fire suspicious as there were no ignition sources in the area of origin. Also the type of fire is similar to other recent fires in the area.

  The fire is under investigation however it appears suspicious at this time.

  The enclosed back patio was heavily damaged. Minor damage to the interior of the house.
