Hundreds of people gather at a local community hall in Wapato this weekend to celebrate Filipino culture.

It's part of the 62nd Anniversary Celebration of the Flipino Community Hall.

Guests were invited to enjoy buffet-style food and watch dance performances put on by children and adults from the community.

This year's celebration featured a consulate group from San Francisco, who is touring the valley area and encouraging Filipino Americans to become more involved in their community.

"There are just 22 Filipino centers in the 10 states that we cover, that's one center for every 4,000 Filipinos," said Philippine Consulate General Leah Victoria Rodriguez, "This is an important celebration that marks this Filipino center that caters to our kababayans [people]."

The hall was constructed in 1952 by pioneer Filipino families that settled into the Yakima Valley area in the 1930's.
