President Barack Obama announces his choice for the new leader of the VA.

He's nominating former CEO of Procter & Gamble Robert McDonald.

If approved by the senate, McDonald would replace Eric Shinseki.

The VA has recently been under fire following allegations of disturbing shortcomings at its medical facilities and the president said this nomination is just one of several steps in the right direction.

Obama said those responsible for manipulating or falsifying records at the VA will be held responsible.

He said more than 130,000 veterans have been reached out to in order to get them off of those health care waiting lists.

(D) Senator Patty Murray tells Your Local ABC she's please with Obama decision and will confirm it but she said there is a lot of work to be done.

"It's not just a matter of appointing a secretary and confirming him," said Murray. "We need to make legislative changes, we need to make sure that from the ground up everybody is doing everything they can to care for veterans and no one is left waiting."

Directly following his nomination, McDonald said, at Procter and Gamble, the focus was always the customer, he said he'll take that sense of responsibility with him into the VA where he said the veteran is the customer and there must be a focus on the benefits and care they deserve.
