The three Yakima County Commissioners voted this morning to prohibit growing, processing, and selling legalized recreational marijuana in unincorporated parts Yakima County.

Cities within the county will still be responsible for their own laws and moratoriums in regards to recreational pot. Two weeks ago, after much debate and flip flopping, union gap passed an ordinance to allow growers, sellers and users. However, Yakima has banned all pot related businesses.

This debate has been on the table since Fall of 2012 when state voters approved initiative 502. Some people think today's decision means a missed opportunity to create tax revenue for the county.

"The users are going to go out of this county and they're going to spend their money somewhere else and the taxes will go to other counties," said Anthony Chapman, Yakima resident.

"From my perspective it came down to the vote back in November 2012 of initiative 502 of the Yakima County voters, and the majority were against those activites," said Kevin Bouchey, District 2 County Commissioner.

The board can change course on the matter at a later time, but bouchey says the ordinance decided on today will be finalized next week.
