Another candidate for Yakima County Sheriff makes his public announcement this morning.

Lieutenant Brian Winter made the announcement in front of dozens of supporters.

Winter, a retired Marine, has served as a law enforcement officer in Yakima County for over 25 years -- he's also helped improve school safety protocol following the events at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Winter says his experience working in the sheriff's office makes him the best candidate for the job.

"I believe this is a natural progression for me, I believe the partnerships I have worked for years and years to develop will be a huge benefit to the sheriff's office with being the sheriff," said Winter, I'm looking forward to those challenges."

Winter is the third person to declare his candidacy.

Sheriff's Deputy Steve Changala and Tieton Police Chief Jeff Ketchum are also running.

Current county sheriff, Ken Irwin, announced he will retire at the end of his term.
