Vehicle collision injures 3 in Yakima, 1 arrested
A 24-year-old man is in custody suspected of injuring three people last night in Yakima following what police describe as vehicular assault.
Just after 9 p.m. last night, officers responded to a report of a collision near the intersection of N. 1st Avenue and W. “I” Street in the City of Yakima. When officers arrived, they located the collision east of N. 1st Avenue on W. “I” Street.
The collision involved two cars, a Ford Mustang which had been westbound on W. “I” Street and a Dodge passenger car which was eastbound on W. “I” Street at the time of the collision. The investigation revealed the Ford had been westbound on W. “I” Street when the driver lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane of travel striking the Dodge nearly head-on.
The 19 year-old-female in the Ford sustained a severe laceration to her head. The 37 year-old-driver of the Dodge sustained a dislocated hip and other cuts and bruises. The 13 year-old-passenger in the Dodge was unrestrained at the time of the collision and received head and back injuries. The three passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. At the time of this press release, the injuries to the passengers did not appear life-threatening.
The 24 year-old-driver of the Ford showed signs of impairment and was arrested for Vehicular Assault. After being treated at a local hospital for a lower leg injury the driver was booked into the Yakima County Jail.
The Yakima Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation into this matter.
