Benton City Homicide

Benton County Sheriffs are investgating a homicide in Benton City.

Sheriffs responded to a call reporting a suspicious car parked outside the Assembly of God Church on River Road just after 7:30 a.m.

When they arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of Michael Edwards.

The 55-year-old victim was laying face down next to a shed behind the church just a few yards from the "suspicious" car, an old Mustang with the passenger door open.

Edwards' nephew was across the street from the church shedding tears shortly after authorities informed him of his uncle's death.

One neigbor who lives across the street said she doesn't feel safe right now.

"Scary, really scary," said Shannon Pack, a neighbor. "It's at a church for one, we live right here and I've got two kids. I would never have expected something like that to happen down here."

Another neighbor said he's lived across the street from the church for 4 years and never seen anything like this.

"I was very shocked and surprised," said Jim Hutton, a neighbor. "In this neighborhood here, makes me concerned, just being across the street from where I live."

One sheriff said two small dogs were waiting next to Edwards' body and barked at officers as they approached; the dogs are now at Benton County Animal Control.
