"A" Street in Yakima to be Renamed
Yakima City Council has given the green light to a proposal to rename a street in the city after a local Medal of Honor recipient.
The city council has agreed to rename "A" Street to Sergeant Pendleton Boulevard.
This after a resident objected a week ago, bringing up a previous attempt from 2006 to rename the street after civil rights and labor leader, Cesar Chavez.
City spokesperson Randy Beehler says there will be a few minor changes to the original renaming proposal.
Only a portion of 'A' Street will be renamed; the downtown area from Front Street east to about 9th Street will be changed.
Beehler says council will be working to change signs in that specific area over the next several weeks and months, and also alert businesses along the roadway.
