Coroner identifies Yakima man who died in police custody in Pasco
The Franklin County coroner identifies a Yakima man who died early Sunday morning in police custody in Pasco.
Coroner Dan Blasdel says the 35-year-old man who died is Ismael Maria Acevedo.
Blasdel says an autopsy on Acevedo was conducted Monday, and the results are inconclusive.
His office is now waiting for toxicology results, which typically take 6 - 8 weeks.
Acevedo died on the corner of South 9th Avenue and B Street in Pasco.
Pasco police believe Acevedo was involved in a large fight outside the Golden Nugget Night Club on South 4th Avenue around 12:30 AM Sunday.
When officers went to investigate the fight, they spotted Acevedo a few blocks away, and they chased him on foot until they detained him on the corner of South 9th Avenue and B Street.
Police say while they were taking Acevedo into custody, they discovered he had stopped breathing.
They tried to resuscitate him, but he died.
"What we do know is he wasn't tased, he wasn't shot. There was no trauma on the body. So we wait for tox and see what comes back with that" said Blasdel.
The Tri-City Special Investigations Unit is still investigating the incident.
