As the temperatures really begin to drop, the Kennewick Fire Department is making it a personal goal to keep kids warm this winter.

Firefighters showed up to Eastgate Elementary School in Kennewick to donate warm coats to the entire 1st grade class.

Firefighters used their own money to purchase about 100 coats costing them nearly $3,500.

They said it's a great way to give back to the community they live and work in.

This is the first year Kennewick firefighters are doing the "Coats for Kids" drive and they plan to do it every year from now on.
