Yakima PD Investigating Murder
Yakima police are trying to figure out who killed a 26-year-old Prosser man outside a motel in Yakima on Friday night.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Joshua Mathis.
A family friend says Mathis was a good kid, who had his ups and downs.
Police say Mathis had checked out a room at the Red Apple Motel on North 1st Street the day he was killed.
Officers found Mathis's body in the parking lot of the motel just before 7:30 PM on Friday.
They say he had multiple bullet wounds to his chest and head.
Paramedics took Mathis to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead that same night.
Police say they have no suspects in the case, and they have no idea what the motive for the shooting could be.
We briefly spoke with Mathis's cousin in Prosser today - she told us she had no comment on his death.
If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call the Yakima Police Department, at 509-575-6212.
