Pow Wow Held At Wapato Schools
Students at Camas Elementary School in Wapato celebrate Yakama Nation history with a Pow Wow.
Members from the Yakama Nation performed songs and dances for students to commemorate the signing of the Yakama Treaty in 1855.
Students of native american descent also got the chance to dress in traditional attire and perform alongside other natives from the community.
"This gives them the opportunity to show their classmates a little bit about their culture," said program coordinator Rosa Martinez, "It gives them a chance to do that, and perform."
Pow Wow's will also be held at Adams and Satus elementary schools next Tuesday and Thursday -- parents are welcome to attend.
