Washington River Protection Solutions President Announces Retirement
Washington River Protection Solutions President and Project Manager Mike Johnson is planning to retire on June 30th following 42 years in the nuclear industry.
Johnson made the announcement yesterday, yet plans to remain in the Tri-Cities where he is active on the Columbia Basin College board and with Delta High School.
He will be succeeded by Dave Olson, Senior Manager at the Department of Energy's Savannah River site in South Carolina.
The operation of maintaining the underground waste storage tanks at Hanford falls under the jurisdiction of Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS). This organization is responsible for retrieving, treating, storing, and ultimately disposing of the approximately 53,000,000 gallons of nuclear and chemical waste stored in these tanks at the Site.
Washington River Protection Solutions is a joint venture between URS Corporation and Energy Solutions, with AREVA as the primary subcontractor.
