Powerball Tix Mania as $600 Million Jackpot Reached
People across the country are snatching up Powerball tickets today, hoping to be the nation's next millionaire.
Today, the Powerball jackpot rose to $600 million, which is the largest jackpot in Powerball history.
Lottery retailers have been busy selling tickets to customers all day.
There has been a steady stream of customers since 10 AM at the Yoke's in Kennewick.
Employees say they are selling twice as many tickets as they sell on an average day.
The Powerball jackpot has grown more than $200 million in just the last couple days.
The last drawing was on Wednesday for a $360 million dollar grand prize - but nobody won, so the jackpot shot up.
Many residents in the Tri-Cities say spending a couple bucks is worth the chance of becoming a millionaire.
"I just happened to notice it was $600 million, so I thought I'd buy a ticket" said David Trukositz.
"You just never know. Would love to win. Like to donate a bunch to charity and help out friends and family, that would be awesome" said Cheryl Steberl.
"I would buy every one of my kids a house and car" said LaTonia Haunreiter.
To give you some perspective on how much money we're talking about, $600 million would be enough to buy a $10,000 home theater system for every resident in Walla Walla County.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 175 million.
The next drawing is Saturday night at 8 PM.
