Obama's DOE Pick Green-Lighted
The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed President Barack Obama's nominee, Dr. Ernest Moniz, to lead the Energy Department.
The physicist is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology currently.
He will replace Steven Chu, who was Energy Secretary in Obama's first term.
Moniz also served as Under Secretary of Energy from 1997 to 2001, during the Clinton years.
Obama nominated Moniz On March 4, 2013.
Moniz is one of the founding members of The Cyprus Institute and the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems, Director of the Energy Initiative, and Director of the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment at MIT.
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is Chairman of the Senate Energy Committee.
He calls Moniz savvy and solution-oriented.
