Substation failures leave thousands in the dark

Columbia Rural Electric Association says thousands of people spent a portion of Tuesday evening in the dark.

The cause is believed to have been due to failures at two Bonneville Power Administration substations.

Outages were reported shortly after 7 p.m. effecting areas in College Place, Walla Walla, Touchet and Milton-Freewater.

Crews were able to restore power to the effected areas just before 10 p.m.
