Fire Guts Terrace Heights Transfer Station
Investigators are looking into what caused a massive fire that guts the inside of a waste transfer station.
Firefighters say it happened just before two this morning at the Terrace Heights landfill.
Multiple crews were called out to battle the fire, which took them nearly four hours to knock down.
Waste Management says the station is meant for people to off-load their garbage, which would be taken to the landfill -- for now, people will need to take their trash directly to the landfill, while they determine if the station can still be used.
"At this point, we don't know what we're going to do," said Solid Waste Manager Wendy Mifflin, "We have our engineering staff onsite to take a look at it today and make reccommendations to us. We hope to know something within the next week or so."
Firefighters say they are still looking into what caused the fire -- no loss estimate was available this afternoon.
