Group Wants Track 29 Preserved
A group in Yakima is voicing its support for the Track 29 mall, by requesting to have it listed as a historic district.
Members of the Historic North Yakima Group say they are filing the request to the city after the property's trustee, Matthew Anderton, began looking at options for the area.
One of those options includes converting it into a parking lot, according to plans submitted to the city.
One member says the train cars need to stay in the area if people want to preserve the city's history.
"This town has been around since the late 1800's, it's a historic town," said Lynne Kittelson, "Look what Ellensburg has done with their historic town, look what Toppenish has done with their historic town with the murals and the trains. We're missing out all the way around."
We made several attempts to contact trustee Matthew Anderton, however, he could not be reached for a comment.
The group says it will take several months before the city makes a decision on the mall.
