Following the sequester in Washington D.C., the Federal Aviation Administration says it is closing over 170 air traffic control towers nationwide the first week of April -- including the Yakima Control Tower.

Interim Airport Manager Rob Peterson says the closure will leave 5 people out of a job.

However, Peterson says the department is currently drafting an impact letter for the FAA, explaining why the airport control tower should remain open -- the FAA is also planning on closing air towers in Walla Walla and Moses Lake.
