Local Bishop Awaits Selection of New Pope

Attention from around the world is on the Vatican --  as tomorrow the Cardinals will begin selecting a new leader for the Catholic Church.

115 Cardinals will convene in the Sistine Chapel, and handwrite the name of the Cardinal they believe is the best possible person to lead the Roman Catholic Church.

Once the ballots are counted they'll be burned in a cast-iron stove.

White smoke if a Pope has been chosen -- black smoke if no one gets two-thirds of the votes, thus carrying the papal election onto a second day.

Back here at home, the leader of the Yakima Diocese is anxious to see how tomorrow's event unfolds.

"I think we're looking for somebody that can really begin to resolve some of the administrative issues that have surfaced," said Bishop Joseph Tyson, "I think we need somebody that really can be good with the sexual abuse scandal and help build up the confidence in a very robust process that we have here in the U.S. And increasingly around the world."

There is still no front-runner -- leading many to speculate this conclave could be lengthy.
