Violent Crime Down in Richland

Crime in Richland is down overall in the past year, with violent crime down about 6 percent.

According to a report released today by the Richland Police Department, aggravated assault decreased by 22% in 2012 compared to 2011, and burglary is down by 23%.

However, the incidence of rape increased by 54%, with 13 in 2011 and 20 in 2012.  Robberies went up 86% with 7 in 2011 and 13 in 2012, auto thefts were also on the rise.

Richland Police says the report gives a snapshot of the work the police department does, and overall it is positive.    "I think the crime, especially violent crime is well below the state average.  I think it speaks to the quality of life we enjoy in the Tri-Cities in general and in Richland specifically higher than other cities we compare ourselves to," says Captain Mike Cobb.

As for murder, there were no murders in Richland in 2012, compared to one in 2011.
