A bike helmet safety awareness project called "Save a Brain, Wear a Helmet" is unveiled today, involving putting up 20 signs along the Sacagawea Heritage Trail.

Miss Tri-Cities 2012 Halle Goodwin was instrumental in getting this project up and running.

Goodwin’s project was inspired by her Safe Kids platform with a strategy to increase awareness on the importance of bike helmet use, and possibly donating helmets for those who can't afford them.

She worked in partnership with the City of Kennewick's Parks and Recreation Department to install these signs.

"It means so much to have the overwhelming support I've felt from the community while completing a project that is so tangible and lasting. I can't wait to return to these parks in a few years and still see what I did towards making a difference,"said Goodwin.

Safe Kids is an organization that works in the community, around the state, and internationally to prevent unintentional injuries.
