Vista Field to Shut Down December 31
The Port of Kennewick will cease operations at Vista Field on December 31st.
The airport's last day was voted on last night by port commissioners.
Following the closure, work will begin to demolish the runways and taxiways, rent vacant corporate hangars for non-aviation use and establish a litigation fund -- not to exceed $500,000 -- to defend against legal action related to the airport's closure.
In April, the Port of Kennewick chose to close the airport and redevelop the land, a move that is expected to make money in the long run and benefit the larger community.
