The Tri-City Americans honor long time Off-ice Official Alfred “Fred” Vallee, who passed away last Thursday at the age of 71.

The club has renamed the on-ice official’s Locker Room in Fred’s honor.

Born in Quebec, Fred moved to the Tri-Cities in 1975 with his wife, Ramona, as a pipefitter in the Hanford area out of Local Union 598.

He helped establish the Tri-Cities Amateur Hockey Association and The Hockey Refereeing Association in 1988.

His passion for hockey led him to become an Off-Ice Official for the WHL, serving as a goal judge for the Tri-City Americans for 25 years.

Fred enjoyed mentoring and refereeing until he got colon cancer in 2002.

He leaves behind his wife, and children Anita (John Johnston), Georgia (Gilbert Sandoval) and Marc (Nicole Wammer).
