Walla Walla Nominated in "America's Best Small Town For Food"

(WALLA WALLA, Wash.)—Two years after being recognized as “America’s Friendliest Small Town” by Rand McNally, and one year removed from making the finals in the “America’s Best Small Town For Food” category, Walla Walla once again finds itself nominated for the Best Small Town For Food category and is seeking help from other Washingtonians in the form of online votes at www.bestoftheroad.com to help propel it to the finals.

 

Through Sept. 3, visitors to the Best of the Road website can cast their vote for Walla Walla as America’s Best Small Town For Food, and can cast additional votes once every 24 hours. Walla Walla is the only Pacific Northwest community vying for the culinary title,which will be awarded in mid-October.

 

“We’re hoping that Washingtonians will rally in support of our efforts, and help crown Walla Walla as America’s Best Small Town For Food by casting their votes at bestoftheroad.com early and often,” said Ron Peck, executive director of Tourism Walla Walla. “The Valley’s culinary scene abounds with outstanding chefs creating unique, inspired, and locally sourced dishes that reinforce the diverse and rich agricultural scene in the Walla Walla Valley.”

 

Home to Washington’s official state vegetable (the Walla Walla Sweet Onion), Walla Walla is considered the capital of Washington wine country and one of the most agriculturally rich communities in the Pacific Northwest. The Valley’s agricultural roots have helped foster a culinary industry that is almost unheard of for a community of 30,000 people. Walla Walla’s culinary scene, which counts a James Beard Foundation Best Chef nominee among its current chefs, also features the acclaimed Wine Country Culinary Institute. In 2012, Walla Walla was recognized as one of America’s Best Small Towns for Food by The Daily Meal.
