Tri-Cities native prepares to race in Columbia Cup
If you're planning to watch the boat races on the water, be on the lookout for Josh Culver - he's a Tri-Cities native racing this weekend in the Columbia Cup.
Culver races the one-liter hydroplanes.
Those hydros are somewhat new to the Columbia Cup - they've been to the Tri-Cities before, but not for several years.
Culver hit the water this morning for testing.
He says the competition this year is very fierce, but he's looking forward to racing this weekend.
"I'm excited. What I really want to accomplish is get more local people involved. I'm the only boat like this in the Tri-Cities and it'd be nice to have more people that could get out there and go racing. It's a lot of fun" said Culver.
The one-liter hydros have jet ski engines in them.
They can go up to 100 miles an hour.
