Friends and family are mourning the loss of a young man who was killed in a two car accident near Zillah this morning.

Washington State Patrol says Jeremiah Atkins ran a stop sign at the intersection of Gilbert and Cheyne Road and struck another vehicle before hitting a utility pole.

Atkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, Cassandra Silva, was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

One man says he was Atkins teacher, and says he is devestated by the loss of one of his former students.

"Jerry was a wonderful young man, and I've watched him since he was in my classroom over the years," said Terry Myers, "Mature, very responsible. The loss can't be measured... It can't be measured."

Investigators are unsure if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident.
