Hundreds of runners are expected to take over parts of Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick late Saturday night to raise money for Special Olympics Washington.

Police officers in the Tri-Cities are holding their second annual Run From the Cops 5K fun run.

The run starts right after midnight, at 12:01 AM (on Sunday), and it starts and ends at Gold's Gym.

Officers will close down two lanes of Clearwater Avenue between Highway 395 and Edison Street so runners can race in the street.

All the money raised from the event goes to local athletes participating in the Special Olympics.

"It covers things like travel to sporting events for athletes, uniform costs, lodging costs. As an athlete for Special Olympics, there's no cost to the athlete whatsoever, and so some of those costs are absorbed by the money that we can raise through these fun events like this" said Det. Sgt. Randy Maynard, Kennewick Police Department.

If you haven't registered for the run and you want to participate, you can do so tomorrow night at Gold's Gym starting at 10 PM.

It costs $25.
