Suspect arrested for car theft and assault in Toppenish

Yakima County Sheriff deputies arrest a man Wednesday morning in Toppenish for possession of a stolen vehicle and assault.

It all started after deputies were sent to the 400 block of McDonald Road regarding a two car accident.  Initial information indicated a man had run from the scene.

When deputies arrived, one man was holding another man down.  Both showed signs they had been fighting.  It was discovered that the man being held down had stolen the other man's Dodge Durango from the 1100 block of Washington Avenue in Toppenish.

The victim had started the Durango outside of his house to warm up.

The vehicle's owner then chased the suspect and attempted to block the stolen SUV before being rammed by the suspect.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot before being captured by the victim.

The suspect, 25-year-old Clifton Hines, was booked into the Yakima County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, assault, and driving with a suspended driver's license.  Hines also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
