A Big Boost for Special Olympics
More than $213, 000 has been raised by the Polar Plunge 2013, and it will all go towards supporting Special Olympics athletes.
About 620 plungers braved the nearly frigid temperatures into the Columbia River Saturday for this year's Polar Plunge to benefit athletes of the Special Olympics.
More than 500 people were also on hand to watch the plungers jump into the barely 30 degree waters announced at plunge time.
Each year, people participate in the plunge by collecting donations from community members leading up to the event. Each plunger also had to raise fifty dollars of his or her ownthis year to make the plunge itself.
The Polar Plunge is organized by local law enforcement each year, and the Kennewick PD says it is by far, the biggest fundraiser for them.
