Vandals strike mailboxes in Kennewick, Police investigate
Kennewick Police say over the past week four incidents have occurred where mailboxes have been damaged by so called "Drano Bombs" -- plastic bottles containing chemicals that react with other ingredients that cause an explosion.
The incidents on January 16, 17 and 21, took place on the 2900 block of S. Garfield, the 1100 block of S. Newport and the 1700 of S. Olympia. In all the incidents, mailboxes were either damaged or destroyed. All four incidents occurred within just a few blocks of each other.
While no one appears to have been injured in any of these incidents, the potential for serious injury or death is always a possibility.
Police have reason to believe that the suspect(s) in these cases may live in the area and are asking parents to examine their cleaning supplies and determine if they have anything missing.
