Wapato Man Killed By Train

A Wapato man is dead after authorities believe he was accidentally by struck by a train.

This accident took place at 2:30 this afternoon.

The Yakima County Coroner says the man is identified as 19-year-old Tyrone Colwash.

Michael Hernandez says he has seen Colwash in his neighborhood in the past.

"I think i might have seen him a couple times, but I'm not sure who he was because sometime's we'd talk when I get home from school and just say hey," said Hernandez, "I don't know, it's just kind of crazy how something like that could happen"

Officers say they were called out to an area near North Track Road.

When officers arrived, they found the body of Colwash, who was crushed by a train heading southbound.

Officers believe Colwash was traveling, listening to headphones, completely unaware that the train was behind him.

Michael Hernandez says he regrets not getting to know his neighbor, but hopes the family will be able to find peace with the loss of a young life.

"I just hope they're alright," said Hernandez, "And my prayers and thoughts go out to them, and whoever knew [Colwash]."

Officers say the investigation is still ongoing, we will update you when we know more.
