Over 250 firefighters from across the state are in Yakima this week to brush up on their training.

It's part of the annual Firefighter Training Conference.

Today, firefighters learned how to properly react in situations that require them to help other crew members in burning building situations.

Event coordinators say they hope the new training will help prevent future firefighter casualties.

"Continuing education is a big thing," said Conference Operations Coordinator David Dodge, "Even though some training is mandatory, there's other non-mandatory training. [We're] just getting that training out there and keeping new ideas in people's heads")

The firefighter training conference runs through Wednesday.
