Yakima Memorial Receives $21,000 Donation

Yakima Memorial Hospital receives a generous donation this afternoon to benefit its children's healthcare services.

Solarity Credit Union presented two checks, totalling over $21,000 -- that money will go towards the pediatric unit to help with any necessary improvements.

The credit union also presented a wagon full of toys -- the toys will be distributed to child patients in the unit during the holidays to help make their experience more fun and relaxing.

"Pediatric play therapy is a very important part of a child's recovery," said nursing manager Linda Haralson, "It's a diversion from the scary things that happen in the hospital, like getting an IV started, or blood drawn. It's also a gift that we can give them to take home that makes their stay special and [let them know] We really care about them."

The wagon will also be used to take children on field trips around the hospital during their down time.
