Rally Held On Ike's First Day
If you visited the new Eisenhower High School in Yakima this morning, you may have seen a group of people rallying outside.
The group was holding the demonstration, asking why solar panels were not included in the construction.
The group argues solar panels would provide a renewable energy source, and help protect the planet.
The school district says Ike is already equipped with the latest energy saving technology, however, installing solar panels would be too expensive to recoup the cost over their lifespan.
"Throughout our district, we are very-very consciencious about saving energy," said Construction and Planning Principal, Jim Wright, "We did a very thorough study of solar panels, it just didn't pencil out, it would actually cost us more than the savings that we generated."
The Yakima School District plans on hosting a dedication ceremony for the new Eisenhower school in October.
