Yakima Asked to Approve Street Name Change
Yakima city officials will be asked to adopt an ordinance to rename one of the city's streets in honor of a fallen soldier.
During tonight's city council meeting, city members will consider renaming "A" Street to "Sergeant Pendleton Boulevard," in honor of Jack Pendleton.
Pendleton died during World War II after drawing gunfire away from his platoon so that his men could take out the enemy's nest.
Pendleton was later awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, making him the only Yakima resident to receive it.
The council will also hold public hearings on regulations regarding cell phone towers and smoking in public areas.
The city council meeting will begin at 6 in Yakima City Hall.
