11 People Rescued From the Yakima River Yesterday
Kittitas County Press Release
Sheriff For Immediate Release 11 people Rescued on the Yakima River Sunday. Kittitas County, WA -08/05/2013 - Two families from the Sedro Woolley area were rescued from the Yakima River, South of the Ringer Boat Launch. One member suffered a dislocated shoulder. Their ages ranged from 7 yoa to 71 yoa.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of 8 to 10 people in the river after capsizing tubes and rafts below Ringer Boat Launch. Using a rescue jet boat, Deputies located all of the family members. The only injury found was a dislocated shoulder on 45 year old Herb Erickson.
Per Undersheriff Myers, "It's a blessing all of these people came off the river safe. this is not the best area to float with tubes and small children. As we were launching the rescue boat, another large group of people, with small children and floating toys was preparing to enter the river. Deputies recommended a more suitable launch site further south".
"We encourage people to call the Sheriff's Office for updated information and recommendations before floating unfamiliar waters."
