KPD Recovers Stolen Car & Suspect
Kennewick Police investigated a stolen vehicle report at the Toyota Center (7000 W. Grand Ridge). The victim had left his keys in the vehicle, while he was playing hockey. A stolen vehicle report was filed and the car was entered as stolen. At 11:50 PM Officer S. Peterson spotted the occupied stolen vehicle at 5th and Olympia St. Officer Peterson and CAT detectives attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled. The vehicle was pursued from 5th and Olympia St, to 4th and Olympia St, eastbound on W. 4TH, southbound on Garfield St to 14th. The vehicle turned around and traveled to 10th and Garfield St, and then eastbound on W 10TH Ave, southbound on Washington St. to 15th and Cedar St. The vehicle slid into some wood chips bordering a yard, and the suspect fled on foot. CAT detectives pursued the suspect on foot, and cornered him in a backyard. Detectives took the suspect in to custody after he tried to hide under a trailer. The suspect was identified as Daniel C. Penselin. Detectives located methamphetamine on his person. Penselin provided a verbal statement and told Detectives he had just been released from the Benton County Jail, and he walked across the street to the Toyota Center, and found a car to steal so he didn’t have to walk. Penselin was booked into Benton County Jail for Auto Theft, Felony Eluding and Possession of Controlled Substance/Meth.
