Bill Iffrig: Tragedy in a Snapshot
A 78-year-old Washington man is in the cover shot of Sports Illustrated tribute to the fallen at the tragic Boston Marathon.
Bill Iffrig (Lake Stevens, WA): "The shock waves hit my whole body...my legs just started jittering around...I knew I was going down."
In this shot, Iffrig went down as the first explosion went off nearby. The Boston police can be seen drawing their weapons in the confusion that ensued.
Iffrig has been a life-long runner and is a veteran of 45 marathons.
"I got down to within 15 feet of the finishing apron and just tremendous explosion, sounded like a bomb went off right next to me," said Iffrig. " I ended up down on the blacktop."
