Hastings, Young Support Bill to Establish Manhattan Project Historical Park

Kennewick Mayor Steve Young visits Washington D.C. today to join others in voicing their support of a bipartisan bill called the Manhattan Project National Historical Park Act.

The bill would establish a national park for facilities at Oak Ridge, TN; Los Alamos, NM and Hanford -- which includes the historic B-Reactor.

Congressman Doc Hastings (WA-04), chaired today's meeting which included community leaders and the National Park Service who all spoke in favor of the bill.

Both Congressman Hastings and Kennewick Mayor Steve Young stressed today the importance of preserving these historic sites and noted the positive economic impacts this project would have on the Tri-Cities.

More legislative hearings on the bill are expected.
