Kennewick SWAT standoff

A standoff in Kennewick ends peacefully after an assault suspect refused to come out of his apartment for more than four hours.

The Tri-Cities SWAT team responded to the Edison Village Green apartments in Kennewick, where the situation which began just around 8:00 AM Sunday morning.

Jeffrey McGrath, 53, refused to come out of his apartment after officers responded to a call for domestic violence at McGrath's apartment unit.

The Tri-City Regional SWAT Team said McGrath got in a fight with his girlfriend's son, and when officers confronted him he would not cooperate and locked himself and his girlfriend in the apartment.

The SWAT did not say it was a hostage situation.

Around 12:30 P.M., McGrath came out on his own and did not threaten the SWAT Team and he was taken into custody without any problems.

McGrath is in police custody and will likely be booked in the Benton County Corrections Center.
