American Legion Receives Veteran Memorial Grant
The American Legion in Sunnyside receives an $18,000 grant from a local retailer to help build a veterans memorial.
About 40 workers from the Home Depot helped install cement pavers on the memorial.
The 25x400 foot project is dedicated to World War II veteran and former Sunnyside Mayor, Jerry Taylor, who passed away in 1999.
One Vietnam veteran says the memorial will show how thankful the community is for those who have served.
"It's something that they deserve, rather than just a pat on the back and saying 'job well done.' it's something that they can be proud of and see every day when they drive by, said Bill Ingram.
The total cost of the memorial is estimated at just over one million dollars, and is expected to be complete by 2018.
