Crews begin work on a new dental clinic for a homeless shelter in Yakima this week.

The Union Gospel Mission, located on North First Street, is adding the clinic to its facility.

The clinic will be about 2,000 square feet and have four state of the art dental exam rooms.

The organization says homeless people staying at the Union Gospel Mission will be able to receive free dental care from dentists volunteering their time.

One man says he is glad the shelter is making dental care available.

"Heck, iIremember when I needed it, and I couldn't get it done. I came here and i needed a tooth pulled, and they pulled it for me --- it didn't cost me anything. It was fantastic --- it was a fantastic adventure, really," said Scott Bertolone.

The new dental building will cost about $700,000.

It's expected to be complete by January of next year
