Fire On Cherry Avenue

A housefire this morning in Yakima displaces a family of five.

About 22 firefighters responded to the house fire on the 1300 block of Cherry Avenue around 10:20 a.m.

Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire, which had spread from the bottom floor of the house to the attic.

Investigators say food left on a stove is the suspected cause of the fire.

One neighbor says she was sleeping when the fire started.

"I didn't know what to expect when my neighbor called and told me to look outside and notice how bad the smoke looked coming out of the door," said Amy Casey

The total amount of damages is estimated at $50,000.

The family of five is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
