Firefighters in Pendleton believe an accelerant may have been used to start a large fire that destroyed Pioneer Park earlier this month.

Crews say a picture of the fire taken by a resident before firefighters arrived shows the fire was burning very intensely, in an unnatural pattern.

Firefighters went back to the park last week to dig up some soil samples.

They are waiting for those samples to be tested.

Crews believe they know where the fire started, but they are not releasing that information.

If you have any information on the fire, you're encouraged to call the Pendleton Fire Department.

Firefighters expect to have the results of the soil sample tests within the next couple weeks.
