Ellensburg Police Investigating Series of Vehicle Thefts & Vehicle Prowls
Since September 1st, seventeen vehicles have been stolen and another 42 have been broken into in Ellensburg, including the Central Washington University campus. Ten of the stold cars and 10 of the vehicle prowls involved Honda passenger cars, model years 1986-1994. All but two of the stolen cars have been found. The stolen cars have been recovered locally, with the exception of one located in Yakima.
The stolen vehicles have not been stripped or severely damaged, indicating the suspects may have access to a master key for those Honda model years. Stereos and other easily removed items of value have been removed from most of the stolen or prowled vehicles.
Police encourage the public to be cautious about securing any items of value where they cannot be seen, or inside their home when their vehicles, particularly Honda passenger cars, are not under observation.
Anyone with information regarding these crimes should contact the Ellensburg Police Department.
